Cardano and Block Expand x402 as BNB Chain and Arc Add AI-Agent Payment Tools

Cardano, Block, BNB Chain and Circle are adding payment rails and wallet tools that let software agents pay for online services.

AI agents can now reach more payment options, but each option still needs a wallet, a supported asset and a way for a service to verify payment. This week's announcements address those pieces from different angles. Cardano added x402 support for applications and agents paying in ADA and native tokens; Block contributed Bitcoin Lightning support to the same open protocol. BNB Chain updated Agent Studio so developers can launch agents with wallet setup and stablecoin payment steps built in. Arc's Circle-powered facilitator now lets x402 services settle USDC payments across three networks without separate gas wallets. For developers, these changes shorten the path from an agent calling an API to the service receiving payment. For businesses evaluating AI crypto services, the practical test is whether they can set limits, trace transactions and reconcile payments without adding a separate manual checkout.

Cardano and Block Extend x402 to ADA and Bitcoin Lightning Payments

Cardano added x402 support for applications and AI agents that pay for online services in ADA and Cardano native tokens, while Block joined the x402 Foundation and contributed Bitcoin Lightning support. The two changes give developers additional payment options inside the same HTTP-based flow.

With x402, a website or API can return an HTTP 402 payment request, let a client or agent submit payment, then deliver the requested service after verifying it. Cardano's developer documentation describes the initial TypeScript implementation; its facilitator has completed a transaction on Cardano preprod, while mainnet testing remains unconfirmed. Block's announcement says it contributed Lightning payments, and the x402 Foundation repository records the Lightning scheme addition. The updates expand the standard's available payment choices without proving widespread agent purchases on either network.

That matters to teams building paid API access, data products or software tools. A service can choose which supported asset and network it accepts, while an agent can pay as part of an automated request. Businesses considering Bitcoin payments or ADA-based services will still need to check facilitator support, transaction confirmation and spending controls before putting agent payments into production.

BNB Chain Adds Stablecoin Payments and Automatic Wallet Setup to Agent Studio v4

BNB Chain released Agent Studio v4 with automatic wallet setup, NodeOps deployment and agent payment support for USDT, USDC and USD1. The update removes several setup steps between configuring an agent and testing its transactions.

The official release says NodeOps lets developers deploy without creating or configuring a separate cloud account. Agent Studio also automates wallet creation and funding, and adds the three stablecoins alongside its existing $U option. Developers can still choose AWS or Azure when they want to manage cloud infrastructure themselves.

These changes make it easier to test how an agent pays for services, but they do not remove the need to set budgets and permissions. Developers should know which wallet funds an agent, which assets it may spend and how to stop or review its activity. Those controls are central to the role of crypto wallets in automated commerce.

Using USDC or another stablecoin can make the payment amount easier to express in a familiar currency unit.

Arc Adds USDC Agent Payments Across Arc, Base and Polygon Through Circle's Facilitator

Arc announced live x402 agent payments in Circle-issued USDC, with settlement on Arc, Base and Polygon PoS through Circle's hosted facilitator. Developers can use one integration without managing relayer keys or separate gas wallets, according to Arc's announcement.

The facilitator verifies buyer-signed payment authorizations and submits USDC transfers on the selected network. Arc's launch note positions the service for API access, data services and other digital products that charge per request. Circle's Agent Stack documentation describes agent wallets and payment protocols such as x402 across supported chains.

For a service provider, the hosted facilitator removes some chain-specific setup from a single x402 integration. It does not make every online service payable by an agent; developers still need compatible wallets and merchant-side verification. Those integrations determine whether agentic payments can work through existing crypto payment gateways and business reconciliation systems.

The four announcements expand the available building blocks: x402 now reaches ADA and Lightning payments, BNB Agent Studio packages wallet and stablecoin steps into agent deployment, and Arc offers USDC settlement across three networks through a hosted facilitator. Cardano's current facilitator testing remains on preprod. Adoption will depend on production-ready settlement and controls that let operators see what each agent can spend.
