Looking at the perfect partnership of prediction markets and cryptocurrencies

Cryptocurrency aficionados have known for years that the future of finance was changing. That is why they have been investing and championing this sector for years. Many would have liked to put a bet on the possibility that one day cryptocurrency would replace traditional fiat currencies.

While the odds might have been long in the early years, the biggest barrier for most Americans in placing a bet was not the odds but the ability to do so legally. While there is currently turbulence in the crypto market, those with long memories are confident in riding the storm.

Real-money gambling in the US is heavily restricted, with each state regulating its casino and sports betting operations. However, prediction markets (which have been around for a while but are now moving very much to the mainstream) are offering all kinds of perfectly legal alternatives. Prediction markets allow users to trade on the outcomes of events. However, rather than betting 'against the house', players trade likely outcomes with each other. Platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket are simply exchanges and are shaking up the traditional online gambling market in a way not dissimilar to what cryptocurrencies have been doing to finance for some time.

We invited Casino.org's Ian Zerefa to tell us more about prediction markets and how cryptocurrency fans can make the most of them.

Hi Ian, welcome to Cryptwerk. Before we look at prediction markets and how they might benefit crypto users, could you tell us a bit more about how Casino.org fits into the picture and what your expertise is?

Ian Zerefa

Sure thing! Casino.org is an independent online gambling review platform. The company has been around for decades, and the aim is simple. We want our users to find the best possible online casino opportunities that are fun, fair, and accessible. While online gambling for real money in the US has been very restrictive until recent years, other markets around the world have been far more progressive. We have been monitoring, reviewing, and rating what is on offer for a long time and are assessing the US market with great interest.

I have been reviewing gambling sites for about 5 years and am a specialist in English-language markets worldwide and head up our US team. I have experience in the casino and sports markets and am watching prediction markets with great interest.

I aim to give casino insights that are quick, clean, and comprehensive. My team cuts through the noise to give players accurate, honest information, backed by rigorous research. In a dynamic market, our goal is to empower players with the best data so they can make informed decisions every time they play.

Cryptwerk

Well, that is comprehensive, and our readers should be in safe hands! So, what are prediction markets, and how can players get the most out of them?

Ian Zerefa

The key thing to understand for players in the US is that prediction markets are not 'just another sportsbook'. The legal platforms (and it is important to stress that they are not all legal, which is why we recommend you check out our pages) operate like regulated marketplaces where users trade on real-world outcomes. They do not bet against the house, and the range of predictions on offer is much broader than just sports.

While they differ from gambling sites, they share many similarities, which is why we are bringing our expertise to them. They use similar tactics to attract users, particularly when it comes to 'drumming up trade'.

What do you mean by tactics?

Ian Zerefa

They offer promotions – for example, a crypto.com promo code that offers new users a no-deposit bonus at sign-up using our exclusive link. It is important to be aware that sports-related event contracts are contentious in some states, and access can change with little notice. However, most contracts have a low barrier to entry, allowing beginners to learn to navigate the interface without taking on high risk.

We advise that users use their first sessions for orientation. While online casino gambling is a game of chance, prediction markets combine luck, knowledge, and events. We suggest that users open a few markets, read the settlement rules, and understand what fees apply before making any trades. Taking time to learn the interface will help users get more value from the bonus and the platform as a whole.

You said the prediction market was broader than just sports. So, what sort of events could readers take a position on?

Ian Zerefa

Looking specifically at Crypto.com, there is a huge variety of markets covered. These include culture, economics, politics, and more. The markets present the chances to 'win' as a percentage, and users buy and sell YES and NO positions.

For example, there is currently a market running for Video Game of the Year 2026, which will resolve at the end of the year (December 10). At the time of writing, Grand Theft Auto VI had a 50% chance of being at the top, while Resident Evil Requiem had a 19% probability. This could, of course, all change as new titles are released. However, unlike with a traditional bet, traders are not locked in until the outcome resolves and can trade out whenever they want to (as long as someone else wants to trade in).

Other popular prediction markets at the moment include:

  • US recession by the end of 2026 (NO is the definite favorite right now).
  • Largest company by the end of June 2026 (NVIDIA is in the lead, but Apple is still in contention).
  • 2026 will rank among the hottest years on record.
  • Party to control the US Senate (the Republican Party is the slight favorite with a 54% probability, but this is trending down).

Is Crypto.com's Predict legal in the US?

Ian Zerefa

Yes, your readers can rest assured that the platform is a federally regulated derivatives product operating through the CFTC framework rather than a state-licensed betting platform. Ironically, the even trade runs off a user's USD Cash Account – so while users can deposit crypto into the app, they will pay network fees to send it.

While it might be frustrating not to be able to pay directly in cryptocurrency, for many American citizens, being able to access this type of market at all is a major advance. As the prediction and cryptocurrency markets mature, we can expect closer alignment. In the meantime, there are plenty of other places to use your currency!
