Description

What Mastic Gum Is
Mastic gum is the dried resin of Pistacia lentiscus, a Mediterranean shrub in the same family as pistachio and cashew. The Chios variety, var. chia, is the one used in almost every clinical trial. Remedy's Mastic Gum supplies 1000 mg of powdered resin per vegan capsule, with 60 capsules per bottle.
It is best known for H. pylori and best supported for indigestion, and this page states both honestly.

1000 mg per capsule: Single-ingredient mastic resin.

60 capsules: Two months at 1 daily.

The full evidence map is in our mastic gum overview.

What the Evidence Actually Shows

Mastic has a lot of laboratory work and a thin layer of human trials, and the trials do not all point the way the marketing does.
The H. pylori Question
This is the claim mastic is sold on most often, so it gets the numbers rather than a slogan.

Arm of the 2010 randomized pilot
H. pylori cleared

Mastic 350 mg, 3 times a day, 14 days
4 of 13

Mastic 1.05 g, 3 times a day, 14 days
5 of 13

Mastic 350 mg plus pantoprazole, 14 days
0 of 13

Pantoprazole plus 2 antibiotics, 10 days
10 of 13

In the 2010 randomized pilot, mastic alone cleared the infection in 4 or 5 of 13 patients, against 10 of 13 on standard triple therapy.[1]The effect of mastic gum on Helicobacter pylori: a randomized pilot study — Phytomedicine (2010) View source A 2003 study at 4 g a day cleared 0 of 8.[2]Mastic gum has no effect on Helicobacter pylori load in vivo — Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (2003) View source Mastic is not a replacement for antibiotics, and we do not sell it as one. The detail is in mastic gum and H. pylori.
The strongest human result is in functional dyspepsia, meaning recurring indigestion with no ulcer or other cause found.

Replicated: A 2025 crossover trial at 1.4 g a day, against no treatment.

Stomach pain, dull upper abdominal ache and heartburn were among the symptoms that improved.[3]Is Chios mastic gum effective in the treatment of functional dyspepsia? Chewing Gum or Capsule
The form decides where mastic acts, which decides which studies apply to it.

Form

What the evidence used it for

Raw tears or chewing gum
Mouth
Plaque and saliva bacteria

Toothpaste

Bad breath, 1 trial

Capsules or powder
Stomach
Dyspepsia and H. pylori trials

The plaque and breath studies used chewing gum or toothpaste, so they say nothing about a swallowed capsule. See mastic gum for teeth and oral health and Chios mastic gum, chewing gum vs capsules.
How to Use It
The European Medicines Agency range is the sensible anchor, because it is the only official dose there is.

EMA range: 0.5 to 1 g twice daily, 1 to 2 g in total.

Higher doses were used in H. pylori studies without better results. Where mastic fits alongside other gut claims, including SIBO, is in mastic gum for SIBO.
Safety and Allergy
In trials mastic was well tolerated, and the EMA monograph lists no known undesirable effects and no reported interactions. Allergy is the real caution.

Among 18 people allergic to Mastisol, a surgical skin adhesive that contains mastic, 13 reacted to gum mastic on patch testing.[5]Contact Dermatitis From Gum Mastic (Pistacia lentiscus) and Gum Storax (Liquidambar styraciflua) in Mastisol-Allergic Patients — Dermatitis (2021) View source The full list is in mastic gum side effects and allergy.
Why Choose Remedy's Mastic Gum
No trial makes one mastic capsule better than another, so the honest differentiators are the amount and what the page is willing to say.

1000 mg: 1 capsule sits at the low end of the EMA range.

Two months per bottle at 1 capsule a day, with the evidence and its limits printed on the page rather than left out.
