"For a hundred years, the briefcase was horizontal. It was designed to carry stacks of paper documents in a wide, flat, and heavy case. When laptops replaced documents, the bag didn't change. The industry simply put a laptop where the papers used to go and called it a laptop case. Horizontal became the default orientation not because it was right, but because nobody questioned it. A horizontal case swings wide in a crowded airport, catches on every narrow aisle, knocks into everything you pass. For a machine as expensive and as fragile as a MacBook, that's not a minor inconvenience, it's a design flaw carried forward from 1920.
