Understanding Bitcoin describes and explains hash functions, digital signatures, proof of work and many other technical concepts behind Bitcoin.

The book demonstrates the many advantages of this feature. By learning about addresses, wallets, miners and nodes you will realise that if no one can cheat effectively, each participant can be given full access to all parts of the protocol, whereby no one has a controlling position of trust in the system. And without such an authority there is no need for an identity. Understanding Bitcoin then shows how anyone can use the public block chain with some degree of privacy.

This book is intended for technically interested people who want to understand Bitcoin on a deep technical level. It does not require programming skills, but a basic understanding of some technical concepts is helpful – for example databases, computer networks, computer programs and web servers. A certain maths background can also be useful, but is certainly not necessary.
